Welcome

... to  Rothwell Baptist Church, serving the small Yorkshire town of Rothwell, a few miles south east of Leeds, in the UK.

We are glad you have found our website.

We grew as a shoot from Hunslet Baptist  Tabernacle in 1921, when the main church  was built.  The modern hall behind was added in 1992.

Numbers are increasing, with an active membership of twenty, but around thirty people meeting every Sunday morning.  And we share our church life with many others, from the local children belonging to Friday Club to the older folk who come in for the Mid Week Fellowship. Also the mixed bunch who attend the monthly craft and leisure evening, TimeOut.  (We are also planning to run this popular group weekly  on Monday afternoon, starting in August.)

You are warmly invited to join any of these activities. We aim to be a welcoming church - and seem to do a lot of eating together!

Bryan Davies is our Church Secretary (tel: 0113 2822 009) and Pam Elvin the Treasurer. Another deacon, Rev. Duncan Bradshaw, leads some of the services and undertakes visiting, as we do not have a Pastor at present.  We generally invite visiting speakers.

At present we are in the middle of planning for renovations  The main building is closed as the wooden floor was found to be rotten, but we are seeing this as a heaven sent opportunity to rethink the whole site.  It will be great to be under one roof at last - our bit of Rothwell is know as 'Windy Ridge'.  In the meantime we are having a cosy time in the Hall.

We belong to the Baptist Union and the Yorkshire Baptist Association, and have links with Hunslet Baptist Tabernacle and Middleton Park Baptist , our sister churches in South Leeds.

We take part in 'Churches Together in Rothwell & District' and have active links with other churches in Rothwell, especially running the Alpha Courses.

The 'Live at Home' Scheme operates from upstairs in the Hall, supporting elderly people in the neighbourhood.  They are very supportive of our redevelopment, and hope to use the premises more in the future.

A monthly service is held in Pasture View Sheltered Housing, at the lower end of Wood Lane.
