Welcome

... to  Rothwell Baptist Church, serving the small Yorkshire town of Rothwell, part of Leeds, in the UK.

We are glad you have found our website.

The church sprouted from Hunslet Baptist  Tabernacle in 1921 when the main building, affectionately known as The Rhubarb Shed, was put up.  The smaller hall was added in 1992.

We have an active membership of twenty two, but around thirty people meeting every Sunday morning.  Our life is shared with many others, from the local children belonging to Friday Club to the older folk who come in for the Mid Week Fellowship. Also the mixed bunch who attend the weekly craft and leisure group, Monday Club.   And we are pleased to say the number of community groups using our premises increases all the time.

You are warmly invited to join any of these activities. We aim to be a welcoming church - and do a lot of eating together!

Bryan Davies is our Church Secretary (0113 2822 009) and Pam Elvin the Treasurer. A third deacon, Rev. Duncan Bradshaw, leads some of the services and undertakes visiting, as we don't have a Pastor at present.  We generally invite visiting speakers.

We are just finishing a major renovation  The asbestos roofed older building was closed for three years as the wooden floor was found to be rotten, but we recognised this as a heaven sent opportunity to rethink and link the whole site.  Building work started in October and, despite a change of builder, finished in May.  The official Opening is on 18/19 September and there will be a Community Open Day on Saturday 25th September with taster sessions for the activities.  It's great to be under a single roof at last - our bit of Rothwell is know as 'Windy Ridge'.

The 'Live at Home' Scheme operates from upstairs in the Hall, supporting elderly people in the neighbourhood.  They are very supportive of our redevelopment, and plan to use the premises more in the future.

Members run a monthly service in Pasture View Sheltered Housing, at the lower end of Wood Lane.

More details in our online magazine

We belong to the Baptist Union and the Yorkshire Baptist Association, and have links with Hunslet Baptist Tabernacle and Middleton Park Baptist, our sister churches in South Leeds.

We take part in 'Churches Together in Rothwell & District' and have active links with other churches in Rothwell, especially in running the Alpha Courses.
